Momo is a type of South Asian dumpling, popular across the Indian subcontinent and the Himalayan regions around India and nepal.Momos are native to Nepal, bhutan, and Tibet.
Momo is a type of steamed dumpling with some form of filling.When preparing momo, flour is filled, most commonly with ground water buffalo meat. Often, mutton or chicken meats are used as alternate to water buffalo meat. Finely chopped onion, minced garlic, fresh minced ginger, cumin powder, salt, coriander/cilantro, etc. are added to meat for flavoring.
Momo has become a traditional delicacy in Nepal, Tibet, as well as among Nepalese, and Tibetan communities in Bhutan, as well as people of Ladakh, Northeast India and Darjeeling regions of India.
According to Oxford English Dictionary, MOMO is a Tibetan steamed dumpling filled with meat or vegetables.

the origin of the momo is not clear but it is said that it was originated in tibet. it was called tibetian dumplings.
The word “momo” comes from a Chinese loanword “momo” (馍馍) which translates to “steamed bread”. it is also refer as "dimsum" by some people from china and japan.
**Momo** is similar to a dumpling , however, it was initially introduced with this name by the Newar community from the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal with Nepalese spices fillings (buff meat) and herbs.
Now, Momo is popular across the Himalayan regions and throughout the Indian subcontinent
The reasons for momo’s increasing popularity are various.
First, it is cheap. The price of momo varies from 100 rupees for one plate (10 to 12 pieces) to 150 rupees depending on what kind of mixture it is made of( eg: chicken,mutton,buff,lamp meat etc). A plate of momo is enough for a light lunch. as it is steamed so it is very healthy, but there are consequences of eating it daily as maida is not considered good for health.
Second comes the taste. Momo is prepared with special spices, which add unique and original taste to suit the Nepalese palate. its just mouth watering or you can say its a treat to mouth
